5 ways to de-stress your mind and body at home

5 ways to de-stress your mind and body at home

Life can be stressful, there’s no doubt about it. The ability to cope with stress is a very important skill to have as it’s so easy to get caught up in hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. Most people forget that taking care of yourself should be a top priority and that we desperately need that personal time to take a deep breath and just chill. Good news though; there are plenty of ways to help you de-stress both your body and your mind from the comfort of your home and here are some of our favourites here at Skin Woof!

1. Exercise

We all know about the benefits of staying physically active, but not many people realise that physical exercise is also a great stress reliever! Virtually any activity that requires you to move your body produces the feel-good chemicals called endorphins. These chemicals trigger a positive feeling in your body and your mind, making you feel happier and more relaxed. Try practicing Yoga or Pilates at least 3 times a week, you can easily do that at home and with the help of YouTube videos you can quickly become a pro :)

2. Eat Healthy

Sometimes when we are dealing with a lot of stress it is very hard to resist a visit to the kitchen and devour all the naughty things we can find. It is definitely not a good idea! Healthy eating is just as important for stress management as is the exercise. If your body feels great, so does your mind. So instead of stress eating a tub of Ben & Jerry’s (Guilty!!), try and swap it for something healthier like bananas, which contain mood-boosting chemicals and carbohydrates.

3. Take a bath

This one is an all time favourite thing to do in order to de-stress and relax after a long day. Having a hot bath is a great way to calm your nervous system, relieve body pains and simply make you feel awesome. You can even treat it as your little sanctuary by playing relaxing music and lighting the candles to create a super peaceful environment.

4. Pamper Yourself

Without a doubt, taking care of yourself should always be at the top of your list. Treating yourself is always fun and oh so good for your mental health and well-being. It is also a great way to manage stress and simply relax at home. Give yourself a manicure or pedicure or simply whip up a quick DIY facemask. A mixture of avocado, lemon juice and coconut oil makes a perfect detox mask!

5. Meditate

Meditation is a very well known and simple technique for controlling your stress levels and managing anxiety. You do not have to spend hours meditating and if you practice it regularly, even 10 minutes can be enough to recharge your body with positive energy and create a calm state of mind.

Overall, it is fair to say that it is not possible to completely avoid stressful or particularly nerve racking situations. Nevertheless, it is definitely possible to learn how to manage your stress levels. We hope that you have enjoyed Skin Woof’s useful tips on how to help yourself remain calm and improve your physical and mental well-being!
